About World Wide Volunteer
The goal of this web site is to offer an extensive online information resource about the use of technologies by volunteers and volunteer organizations. Our vision is to help provide voluntary organizations with a think tank to develop their positions and strategies regarding Volunteering and Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs).
World Wide Volunteer (WWV) was first started in the context of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS), held in Geneva and Tunis in 2003 and 2005. The WSIS brought together representatives of governments, civil society and the private sector to discuss issues related to cyberspace and the use of technologies.
Volunteers and representatives of volunteer organizations and network took an active part in the discussions. ICVoluntees was a driving force organizing different events around the topic.
Among them was the International Symposium on Volunteering and the Development of Human Capacity in the Information Society (ISV 2003), held in Dakar in October of 2003.
Another one was held the same year in Geneva, as one of the Summit events. It brought together key actors from the volunteer sectors and representatives of entities working with technology volunteers.
Between 2003 and 2005, working groups were active in a number of different countries, focusing on volunteerism in cyberspace. Results were presented in Tunis, in December 2005.
For the International Year of Volunteers (IYV 2001), a Symposium was organized as the closing event of the Year. You can access the International Symposium on Volunteering (ISV 2001) final report.
